Adsense Buddy Sucks, Super Site Tracker rocks
Adsense Buddy is one of these simple adsense tools that lets you make nice little graphs out of your adsense data. It also monitors your revenue and gives you daily info on what you’re making.
Since there are so few good adsense trackers around, I decided to give Adsense Buddy a shot.
Privacy be gone
When you initially install it, Adsense Buddy asks you to register using your email address. Fair enough. But once they’ve checked your email, they prompt you for something more personal–adsense login and password. Once I entered these in, I got a notice from my firewall manager.
It seems adsense buddy was trying to connect to another site. Interestingly, this site was not google. When I denied the first site, it tried to connect to a second site. I checked the IP addresses of both these sites and lo and behold:neither are google adsense.
Selling out
It looks to me as though Adsense buddy is collecting users’ information by passing data through to their servers. I could be wrong, they could just be checking your email for validity, but it shouldn’t be going to two external sites first. They could be passing on anything from your email address to your password to your adsense stats. (more…)
